Blackouts in several power systems around the world have accentuated the need of new methods for improving the reliability of vital electrical power systems. One of the best methods to solve this problem is to find better ways to monitor the power disturbance by providing real-time and historical data analyzing tools. The electric power grid expands every day and by default pushes the operating limits to the maximum. In order to control and prevent wide scale cascading outages, taking measurements of power flows through the grid is essential. On March 22, 2006 IEEE Power Engineering Society published a standard for “Synchrophasors for Power Systems” (IEEE C37.118). IEEE addressed the definition of phasor measurements, time synchronization, and protocol for communication with phasor measurement units (PMU).

Shortly afterwards the IEEE C37.118 standard was universally adopted by hardware manufactures.  Nevertheless, the need to capture, process and analyze the data still was not satisfied.

In April 2006 ReLab began developing the universal OPC device driver, which fully addresses the need of collecting, processing and analyzing the phasor data. With clear confidence in reliability, accuracy and performance of our products, ReLab introduces the first Syncrophasor IEEE C37.118 OPC Device Driver to the market (RLSYNC).

As of November 20th, 2006 the product is generally available and can be immediately  downloaded shipped upon request.  Read more about RLSYNC ...

11/20/2006 ReLab releases the first Synchrophasor IEEE C37.118 OPC Device Driver

With releasing of new enhanced OPC suite, the introduction of the first Synchrophasor IEEE C37.118 OPC Device Driver and the releasing of the new version of ClearView-HMI, ReLab is pleased to announce the General Availability of the complete end-to-end Synchrophasor Solution.

ReLab Synchrophasor Solution addresses the needs of the most demanding synchrophasor data consumers. It is a must-have tool for system integrators and is an invaluable solution for the end users.

The Solution includes Local Area and Wide Area monitoring, sophisticated data processing, Human-Machine Interface, real  time and historical data collection, complete alarm support with alarm notes, assignment, acknowledgement and history, comprehensive security and much more.

ReLab Software Logic Controller gives users the capability to create sophisticated Phasor Data Processing algorithms.  Users can easily do Phasor frames alignment, calculate angles, speed of angles change, compare values, as well as perform any mathematical calculations. The results of the calculations can be visualized through ClearView-HMI, trigger alarms, can be used in other calculations. ReLab Software Development toolkit allows users to create custom data processing applications.

The Solution is optimized to collect, concentrate and visualize data from hundreds of PMUs.

ReLab Synchrophasor Solution effectively replaces hardware Phasor Data Concentrators (PDC), supersedes them in scale and has Super PDC capabilities.

The Solution works seamlessly with all IEEE C37.118 compliant devices.

As of May 31st of 2007, ReLab Synchrophasor Solution is Generally Available and can be immediately downloaded or shipped upon request.
